Alpena, Arkansas, was founded on top of a graveyard in 1908. The community was settled by the Missouri-North Arkansas Railroad as it was being built through Boone County. Carrollton, Arkansas, a large town just west of Alpena, was in decline during Alpena’s early days. Some of Carrollton’s buildings were disassembled, moved, and reassembled in Alpena. The town was named for a cook on the Missouri-North Arkansas Railroad. (Source: Wikipedia.org)
